Why do so many people post their writing on Answers? Aren’t they afraid of someone plagiarising their work?
If you post parts of your novels on here, (plots, charcters, blurbs etc) aren’t you in danger of your words being stolen? Or is there some kind of copyright thingo? Anyone ever had something (an idea or some writing or anthing) that they posted here, then saw somewhere else because someone copied them? Anyone, any thoughts?
Actually, people who post their writing on sites like this ARE in danger of having their ideas stolen – and the thing about the internet is that, once your writing is out, it’s impossible to get it back. Even though all original writing is automatically protected by copyright, there is no way to enforce that protection if the writer is dumb enough to share their stories online.
Fortunately, most of the original writing on here is such deplorably awful fanfiction, no one has any interest in stealing it.

that’s y i never want to write too much about my plot… just ask what you need and work it out the rest. i believe there is no copyright in internet, even on papers, some people might stole it and claimed as theirs. unless you legalized your story and be a book.
sometimes it is not about plagiarising, sometimes people need idea on what to write and how to write, it just HAPPEN they have same idea then bingo … copying other’s idea. if the plot is same you can make it more interesting.
i mean like vampire stories, the horror genre, fight between families, romance genre, killer series genre, all are having same plot, it is HOW you make and expand it into a beautiful story of your own.

I hope someone does plagiarize my stuff and get it published. I have proof that my writing is my own and I would make a pretty penny suing the idiot who tried. God knows I’m not making any money trying to sell it myself.

yes, you do run the risk of someone stealing your idea, but most of the stuff I see on here is not worth stealing.

Firstly, the chance of something on here being good enough for that is minute. Secondly, there’s little chance of someone who would be able to take it to publication would be on here or even see the post. Besides, a person of such talent would always much rather come up with his/her own ideas.

Be realistic – have you ever seen a piece of writing here that you seriously think somebody would steal? The vast majority of it is "my first chapter about me and my friends in high school, is it good?", with most of the rest being effectively Twilight fanfic.
In any case, you can’t copyright an idea.
People post their writing here because they are amateurs, writing for fun, and they want some feedback. Pro writers don’t post parts of their novels online publicly at all.

I agree with Ben. Anyone who actually has talent and skill in writing will not be busy posting on Yahoo answers. Those who are really attacking writing as a business are elsewhere. Have you read anything anyone posts? With the exception of a poem here or there, it’s all pretty bad.
And, no matter what you write, "Simpson’s Did It Already." You can make as many little changes, but it’s already been done before. All these vampire first chapters being done by the 14 year old girls? It’s been done. They’re all the same.
