An absolutely must read article in today's Ottawa Citizen by John Robson. It is a must-read article, especially for the left of center commenters here. In an extremely well-written article, he warns the mainstream left to take anti-semistism seriously. He ends his column with these words:

“Anti-Semitism is wicked and grotesque. Please do not let it seep into the mainstream left.”

Fellow left of center commenters, take that warning to heart. And please read the article linked at the Liberal-leaning National Newswatch.

Kenny is much more than a terrible public speaker.This morning on Radio na Gaeltacht he informed the country that he is going to abolish compulsory Irish in our schools.Does he not know that the Irish language brings a lot of money and employment into Gaeltacht areas( of which three of these areas are in his own constituency) He has some neck to about job creation.

good question. i have no idea. i should, i guess–so here's the beginning of an answer.

some of it has to do with the discipline of writing: giving yourself a schedule to produce bite-size pieces of thought. that's writing as thinking.

but some of it must also be writing as performance—and performances need audiences. i don't know if that makes the writing less honest, but i also don't know authors who don't have audiences. how could we, since their writing would be locked away in cupboards?
