Blog marketing is becoming more and more popular accross the internet for people looking for ways to get lots of money now and for people that are starting an internet marketing business for the first time, expanding an offline business to the new world of the internet, or wanting to step up their promotional efforts for programs that they are marketing such as affiliate programs or network marketing opportunities.

Blogs offer many competitive advantages to other means of promotional advertising in that for a relatively low cost, a blog can priovide a long term presence in the market which is sustainable. Blogs also provide a centralized hub-like system to promote their business to their markets if done correctly. Learning how to write a blog becomes a competitive advantage to market effectively for the long term and leverage your up-front efforts for months and years to come.

Many inexperienced internet marketers have lost money on over-hyped get rich quick products that just simply never work. Many hopeful people are attracted to the instant traffic and immediate results of PPC (pay per click) advertising of their websites or affiliate products only to see very limited or no sales conversions at all while continuing to spend money. In contrast, blogs can continue to attract visitors for free by getting ranked on search engines while also benefiting from the social media interaction now available to earn money blogging when you properly learn how to blog.

Although there are a tremendous number of blogs across the internet, a good blog will get noticed and receive an inordinate share of quality free traffic if you can separate yourself from the crowd. So what do you write about to to get noticed?

OK, so how to write a blog…

If you already have a blog site, the first thing to do is to determine a relevant and interesting topic to write about. Here are some tricks to help you get started if you don’t already know a topic that you want.

Current or Trending Stories or Videos… take some time to search what’s trending today on the news, google, yahoo, youtube or facebook. What are people interested in today i.e. celebrities, sports, music, health, stocks, economy, etc.

What are your interests or do you want to learn more about a particular topic? What areas do you have experience in or how did you overcome a particular challenge or some achievements?

Do some keyword research to see if your topic is generating enough interest to drive good traffic. In other words, does anybody else care about your topic? Select a main keyword and some related variations also for your article or post.

Research other successful blogs in your market that attract a lot of visitors paying attention to topics and writing styles.

Let The Writing Begin…and don’t stop writing!

Get your thoughts down first. It is important not try to edit your work as you’re writing. This sounds obvious, but it commonly creates a problem for many bloggers and you may not actually end up writing anything at all by stopping too often.

Over the long haul, Your writing style has to fit your personality and true internal beliefs or people will see right through you. Be yourself and be honest in your delivery of your writing. A lot of people will be interested in what actually think about a particular subject. Writing as if you are speaking to your friends or family is a proven method.

Blog Daily or as often as possible – Don’t worry about making it perfect. The content that you’re writing is the most important attribute anyway. The single most important point of how to write a blog is creating interesting content on a consistent basis.

How to write a blog that gets lots of traffic so you begin to earn money blogging. Once your article or blog post is written, then add some basic SEO optimization. Start out simple, such as writing a catchy title that includes your main keyword and spread some of your keywords throughout your content. Be sure to include a category related to your post and tags that relate to your content before publishing your blog.

Pinging your blog after publishing your posts is another good way to get your blog noticed. Each time that you update your blog, use the ping tools to ping it. This will let all of the blog directories know that you have added new content to your blog site that helps with traffic generation.

Every Internet Marketer understands that blogging is an integral part of building their business. Some businesses are built completely around blogs by their owners. Even if you are only using your blog for strengthening relationships with your clients and brand building, you still need to keep in mind that blogs can generate a nice income as well. There are many ways you can monetize a blog and this article will offer you some tips on how to generate additional income.

Use your site to advertise your own products by posting ads for them along with any other ads you have running. This can help you get more sales for your products. Of course, you might want to write articles that feature your products and services once in a while and that’s natural. By having sidebar advertising for them, however, you are able to sell your product every time someone visits your blog whether or not you’ve chosen to highlight something that day. This will also attract more advertisers because they will believe someone has paid for that space so it must be worth purchasing.

Utilize the headers and footers of your blog for banner ads. It is already known that the sidebar of a blog is wonderful for placing ads. Why not use the space in the header and footer of your blog for advertising. When it comes to banner advertising, the space in the header and footer sections of your blog could be used. You can make more of an income with banner ads than you can sidebar ads. If you have a wider header or footer space, you can make a lot of money off of these ads. This is because these ads will be seen from all pages of your blog. You can easily promote ads directly or thru one of the advertising portals. These same approaches are often used by people seeking MLM Success

The paid section is the ideal place to tell people what you think, even if it’s more controversial, and to showcase the products you are interested in concentrating on, among other things. An idea along the same lines is providing people with a newsletter they have to pay for.

If you need to make a little extra money, there’s no better way than via blog monetization. Some people have dedicated themselves full time to blog monetization because they have been so successful it generates more than enough money for them. If you are like most, however, the money you earn will be merely supplemental to the money earned through bigger projects. Still, every extra dollar is important, isn’t it?

Having a business you can run from home has a lot of great advantages and conveniences, but it has a lot of potential pitfalls, too, if you don’t know what you’re doing. It’s easy to avoid falling into common home business mistakes, though, if you do a little research. Here are some smart tips for making your home business thrive.

Be sure to start keeping records on day one of your home business. If you are like many people the daily record keeping may be pushed to the side. It’s not surprising record keeping can be very boring and mundane work. But you will need to pay the piper at some point, and waiting on record keeping could lead to days, even weeks, of full time work at the end of the year. Instead do the right thing and take an hour each day to keep your records in order.

A great tip for your home business is to consider joining forums that are related to home business. This is a great idea because you will be able to get free advice and many tips or tricks that you might not have been exposed to otherwise. Do your research on which forums benefit you the most.

Get your friends and family to promote your home business for you. Give them business cards so they can hand them out to the people they know who might want to use your services. You can even make it a fun game by putting a coupon code on the card which is specific to the individual you give it to, and then the person with the most referrals wins a prize!

Look into the area of search engine optimization to learn some tips and tricks to getting your website ranked high for your particular focus. It is a complicated area but you only need to really focus on the broader tips. There are also companies out there that can handle it for you so see what works for you.

If your home business involves mailing out products to your customers, try throwing a modest freebie into every order you send out. Everyone loves surprises and your customers will not be expecting one. This is one way you can shift slow-moving merchandise, but the best freebies are those that are branded with your business’s name.

For your home business, give your customers the option of buying your product online. Online payments are very common and some customers may be less likely to buy your product if they see that online payments are not an option. You can offer the option of telephone payment, as well as, online payments.

These ideas will help keep you on the straight and narrow when it comes to running your home business, so that you can put all your energy into successes instead of failures, and you can avoid making the standard mistakes that others have made many times before you. That will leave you with more resources to put into pushing your business into growth and profit.

Blogging, it has becoming one of the greatest tools people are using today in order to either promote their voice or their business, and sometimes both. If you are interested in blogging and what it has to offer you then you’re in the right spot, look through this article and absorb the information present.

Ensure that you are spending enough time to generate excellent posts for your blog. Place a link to them someplace that can be easily seen on your blog so that new readers can quickly view these very high-quality posts. This is what is going to convince these readers to subscribe to your blog.

When you are attempting to select a topic that will be the basis of your blog, you should make sure that you are interested in your topic. You can’t expect to maintain a blog whose topic doesn’t interest you in anyway. Selecting a topic that you love increases the chance that you’ll stick with continually updating your blog, which will generate new readers.

Be sure to provide varied information in varied formats in your blog so that you will attract a variety of readers. Some of your readers will want straight text information. Others may prefer pod casts and video. Make sure your readers can download information for viewing, printing or listening so that you will appeal to the greatest possible audience.

Keep your readers’ attention by reducing the text blocks. If your readers see a large, ongoing length of text, they are apt to move on. This intimidates the viewers sense of comfort and ease of reading. They will anticipate a more interesting read if they see small chunks of text, that are easy on the eyes.

Choose an easy to find URL so users can find your blog quickly. Imagine if your blog had a URL with a long address, it would be incredibly hard to share it. That is why it is vital that your blog’s website address is short and easy to pass along.

Keep your stress level down to a minimum. If you are too stressed, you will not be able to write very well. Ideas will not come easily, as your mind will be on what you are stressed about. Take some time out of your day to participate in some relaxation activities.

Try to ensure that you distribute and optimize a press release that states the start up of your internet blogging venture. This is a great way to promote your site and can even result in the addition of a few hundred readers to your viewing base. This is an often overlooked step that can make a huge difference.

When formatting a blog it is important that you keep the design clean and readable. You want your viewers to enjoy the experience of reading your blog. One way to make a great blog design is to pick a light background, preferably white, and choose text that is a very dark shade. This contrast will make it easy for your visitors to easily read your every word.

Research who your readers are before you ever start writing. People that share an interest in a particular subject usually have a number of other characteristics in common as well. You can use that fact to your advantage to accomplish your goals. Your goal may be to inform, it may be to sell a product. To do either, you need to know your readers.

Now you know that a blog is not only useful as a sales tool, but as a fun way to do business, increase awareness, or simply find your voice. Everyone who reads your blog will respect the time you take to let them know about your views. Use this article’s techniques and have fun networking and expanding your blogging horizons.

Viral marketing is so aptly named because the idea, when promoting a product, is to allow for brand recognition to spread quickly, like a virus. In the case of marketing, naturally, the end result will not yield illness, but sales. For the author, viral marketing – or word of mouth campaigns – is an essential method of promotion.

When one thinks of viral marketing as a means to promote books, music, or other items, more than likely it is believed that such techniques are limited to the Internet. This is not necessarily the case. Viral marketing refers to the use of exist social networks or communities for promotion, and while the Internet lends a good amount of convenience here, there are ways to spread “the virus” beyond cyberspace if one is creative enough. By establishing recognition of your book within a small network, you have the opportunity to expand your audience as people engaged in that network move outward and employ word of mouth to recommend your books.

Here are just a few examples of online and offline viral marketing techniques designed to raise awareness:

E-Mail signatures: Every time you send an e-mail – to a friend, relative, or to anybody – you should take the opportunity to promote your work. You need not send a full-blown pitch with every message, but it is imperative to include your URL and catchy one-line slogan in your signature. You would be surprised how a few carefully chosen words can remain fresh in a consumer’s mind for years. Slogans are the core of advertising, and to include a tagline in your e-mail signature can entice readers to click through to your website.

Having worked with a number of romance authors with regards to promotion, I find a number of them have effective e-mail signatures designed to lure readers:

Bridget “an author who never goes” Midway

Do you dare? Ellwood…If She Could. Leigh Ellwood, Romance Author

Where spicier romances are concerned, a reader is going to want to know exactly what Leigh dares, and how far Bridget goes in her writing. Such a slogan, however, does not have to be limited to a body of work. If you have only one book to market, think of a phrase or line relevant to the story that will attract readers. Sell your book in ten words or less and offer visitors incentive to click through to learn more.

Forums and Messageboards: Depending upon the subject of your book, you can find readership in the many online forums available to you. While some forums may not allow direct advertising, equating such blatant promotions to spam techinques employed by robots, there are ways to steer around restrictions.

If you have written a non-fiction work, it is highly recommended to spend some time each day patrolling any message boards relevant to your topic. Whether you have authors a sports biography or self-help work, there is certain to be one or two forums where potential readers exist for your work. If you write fiction, there do exist a number of readers forums related to many genres, from romance to science fiction to fantasy. If your works are in similar vein to popular books and movies (a fantasy novel akin to Tolkien, or a hard-boiled private eye story), seek out those forums as well. Readers of a certain fandom may be willing to broaden their interests if they are duly enticed.

Depending upon the forum, signatures are permitted. Use the opportunity to create a signature (as with your e-mail) designed to encourage forum members to click through to your site. As you become a part of these communities, you also have the opportunity to establish yourself as an expert on forum subjects. Post and reply to posts, and increase awareness of your brand. Employing such a subtle, viral technique can be helpful in bring people to your website and your book.

Articles: Similar to the concept of being a forum expert, writing articles relevant to your book’s topic is a useful method of viral marketing. Whether your write fiction or non-fiction, poetry or plays, supplemental articles for distribution enhance your credibility and allow for the increase of traffic to your website.

Concise, short articles of about 300-400 can be submitted to third-party article databases for distribution. With each article you write, include a biography and URL link to your site. As website owners needing content pick up your material for use, they are obliged to use your links. This method of viral marketing sets you up as an expert on the subject at hand, and also increases opportunity for higher link popularity on your website.

Article writing as a viral marketing technique is also effective in print. Find periodicals and journals relevant to your book’s topic, and submit articles for publication. For mystery and romance authors in particular, there exist opportunities to write anecdotes on the writing process and story inspiration. Mystery Readers Journal and Mystery Scene Magazine are two such outlets that welcome author input.

Mailing Lists: Similar to the message board, the topic mailing list brings the conversation and information directly to the readers’ mailboxes. Visit a database for mailing lists, such as Yahoo Groups or Topica, and you will also find a number of authors have mailing lists set up to promote their works. Some lists are employed purely for newsletter distribution, while others allow for readers to interact with each other and the author.

Whether you decide to maintain your own list or join lists relevant to your books, viral marketing comes into play through your posts and signatures. Try not to be an overt advertisement, but maintain some degree of visibility and authority on relevant subjects. Build trust among the readership, and eventually you will find readers clicking through to your site to learn more.

Signage: Perhaps while driving you have seen the a window sticker on the care in front of you, advertising a URL. It might have been a commercial vehicle, or a mom’s van promoting an in-home business for cosmetics or other goods. You might have it thought it amusing at first, but such signage can be useful in imprinting a brand into the general consciousness. Billboards would not exist otherwise if there was not some proven effectiveness.

The good thing about a sticker on the back window of a car or truck is that it does not have to be too obnoxious, just large enough to be seen. Shop around for a custom design, then you have a traveling advertisement for your book everywhere you drive.

Just as word of mouth advertising helps promote books, music, and other items, so can viral marketing be as effective. Plant seeds of interest throughout the Internet and watch as your traffic and sales bloom.

I have an opportunity to take a 6-week freelance gig that would require writing of newsletters, press releases, website copy and other PR needs. Can anyone tell me the range of hourly freelance rates — particularly in the Atlanta area if possible?

I just underwent a layoff, so this would be a great chance to earn some money while I continue my job search.

Thanks for your advice!
Please note that this is a contract position where I would be working on-site, on multiple projects for four to six weeks. As such, I anticipate being asked my hourly rate. It’s likely they will consider me a "temporary worker". Thanks!

It isn’t paid by the hour. It’s paid by the word. That’s if it is truly freelance work.

On the other hand, if they have you come in to their office and have you work a set number of hours a day, on assignments that they direct you on, and they’re directing and controlling the details of your work on the newsletter, website or whatever, then you should be classified as an employee and paid an hourly rate (at least minimum wage) with time and a half for overtime.

I missed the boat on this one for years!
I about fell out of my chair when a friend showed me what I was missing out on and it was literally thousands of dollars all because I was not adding the right keywords in my articles and videos.
You see I came from a social media background first. So for many months I was writing for my followers only. I was totally forgetting about the search engines. Big mistake HUGE! Once I fixed this and started to implement a couple of targeted keywords in every post, my comment rate, RT rate, and even my opt in rate went up.
Why more eyeballs!
At first I thought that it was due to a fluke. Maybe my post got a little more buzz on the social media scene. Yeah maybe but when I Googled my keyword and found my post on the first page I knew I found the missing ingredient.
There needs to be a balance between writing for the lovely search engines and for your followers. If youre too heavy on the keywords, people will notice something odd, and its a bit cumbersome to read especially if youre going after a long tailed keyword (a couple words or a phrase). And if youre too light on key words the search engines wont find you.
A good technique is 1 keyword every 100 words. You can use Word Tracker SEO Blogger as a tool to track and do keyword research as well. But heres a big tip you can use relatively close or similar keywords as well. For instance if you want to use the keyword social media tribes you can and should also drip in there tribes and tribe.
You should always write for your audience first and Google second, just dont forget about Google. Remember, those big search engines own the sandbox youre playing in.
