What is the going hourly rate for freelance writing/PR?

I have an opportunity to take a 6-week freelance gig that would require writing of newsletters, press releases, website copy and other PR needs. Can anyone tell me the range of hourly freelance rates — particularly in the Atlanta area if possible?

I just underwent a layoff, so this would be a great chance to earn some money while I continue my job search.

Please note that this is a contract position where I would be working on-site, on multiple projects for four to six weeks. As such, I anticipate being asked my hourly rate. It’s likely they will consider me a "temporary worker". Thanks!

It isn’t paid by the hour. It’s paid by the word. That’s if it is truly freelance work.

On the other hand, if they have you come in to their office and have you work a set number of hours a day, on assignments that they direct you on, and they’re directing and controlling the details of your work on the newsletter, website or whatever, then you should be classified as an employee and paid an hourly rate (at least minimum wage) with time and a half for overtime.

Contact the editors of various news papers or health magazines by e-mail with short pre review of the topic,with your ph.no.Someone will depute a correspondent to contact you.If there is no responce within a week,check the names and e-mail addresses of health correspondents from the same source and e-mail them.Someone will contact you for sure.If the article has real good matter in it,you will get the break through and leave the rest to them.

I want to start my own blogging website but I can’t think of a title for it.
I am into a mixture of things like Dragonball Z, Inuyasha, Maria Mena’s music, Kelley Armstrong’s books so I hope this info helps you guys pick me a title.

I have a blog and trust me, I know what you’re going through. Try something that really relates to you, will be easy for others to find, and is unique. I’m not really sure what you’re into, but just combine some words until it’s a cool title. Good luck!

It depends on the website you are writing for and the area you are writing about. An article offering financial advice will probably be better paid than a piece about a trip to Disney World. These days it is very difficult for freelance writers to make money on the web but even so, $10 for 1000 words is very poor pay. Our magazine would pay $50 and we are only a minor publication for teachers but the article would also appear in print.

I know that becoming affiliated with google, amazon, eBay, etc. is the only way to get paid because they supply the ads that people earn you money, but is there some sort of catch to this? Writing online article to make extra money without having to pay for anything like membership seems a little too easy and too good to be true. Is there anyone on here that is already doing this who knows anything?

No catch at all. The way that it works is that other companies pay for a google counterpart service which is called "Ad Words". This service allows them to show up at the top of search results, this is the money that you’re getting, so basically, google is not giving out any money for free.
