Heidi Bohan, author of “The People of Cascadia: Pacific Northwest Native American History” talks about when to harvest nettles and how to do an ethical harvest. Three of her students help out. Different kinds of gloves are used.
The nettle “stingers” are under the leaves only.
Apparently, some people sting themselves intentionally.
There is also some discussion on drying the nettles and how dried nettles can last years.
Nettles are nitrogen pigs and, in this case, the nettles are fed by bird crap.

Do a google search using ‘nettle, harvest, silica’ and you will quickly see it is clear that silica in nettles is an issue…

I make and can …
I make and can nettle broth because I love th flavor so much, I like the flavor of wood nettles better than stinging nettles. I also use it for rennet for some of soft cheeses. In aged cheese it gives a bitter flavor but young cheeses are fine with it and that lets me save my calf stomach rennet for my aged cheeses. Great vid, Thanks.
