I will do my best to explain the best I can here but it may not to be clear. The thing is juding any incident is as simple as being black or white. For example if you consider “the last man” type of incident there are other factors to consider distance from goal etc.
With a kick you have that short time to consider, was it agressive or frustration, was it intended to hurt, where was it in relation to play and what had happended before.
Tony – I agree with your reasons for blogging. Much of the time, blogging is in a way an exercise in spiritual discipline. I am not ready to see blogging listed as a spiritual discipline, but the principles behind blogging (i.e., writing or journaling, accountability, reading good books) certainly are disciplines. I enjoy your blog and appreciate your comments.

Nope… takes a LOT longer since I’d have to go out, buy a Windows license, make room on a hard drive, install Windows, install Firefox, then install the Unity plugin… I’m guessing a half day at the least plus the cost of a Windows license… that’s a lot more than 15 seconds. I use Linux at home and the office… no Windows machines anywhere except one in a corner at the office, gathering dust because not one of the 120+ developers and other people there want to touch it.

Just a complement: one should consider not only the difference but also weight it by the relative importance of that matter. It might be reasonable to vote in a candidate even if the probability of changing the result is very small if you consider the matter to be really important.
One can more safely consider only differences when comparing matters that are of similar importance.
