What is a PR job interview & writing test like?

I managed to secure an interview for an Account Executive position with a PR agency. I was told that I’ll have to take a 1.5-hour writing test as well. I don’t have any real PR experience, although I’ve written press statements and drafted some briefs in my previous job.

I’m not sure what the typical PR job interview and writing test is like and would really appreciate some advice on the following:

1. What kind of questions can I expect at the interview? Are they likely to give me a case study to discuss during the interview?

2. What is the writing test like? Just writing press releases? Or are there more complex stuff I should prepare for?

Any other tips on how I can better prepare for the interview would be much appreciated. Thanks!

In PR they want to see how quickly you can think on your feet. Most of the questions will be standard interview questions – you can find them on any website. i would practice answering them out loud. However you will also get some behavioral interviewing questions "tell me about a time you….." so I would sit and think of some good general stories that paint you in a positive light, then try to work them into your answers.

The writing test will probably be a mock assignment of the type you will be asked to produce. Take your time and focus on your grammar and syntax!

Putting articles written online into a portfolio.?

I’m putting together a journalism portfolio, but some of my articles have only been published online. What is the proper way to present those in a portfolio?

Just print them out in a way that’s legible. It’s not necessary to show them exactly how they appeared on the web – just make sure it’s clear where they appeared. At the end of the day they’re looking at the quality of your writing.

If a same person using different avatars engaging in chats forums, provided he is not schizo, how to uncover ?

Provided a person does not have split personality but involve himself in different aliases in chat forums, are there any common grounds, similar traits, obvious written hhabitsthat we can look for to unmask this person. There must be some logic or psychological guidelines that we can use to decipher these imitators. Any clues ?

That would be very hard to do. I know for a fact that a friend of mine has two names in Yahoo! Answers and both are now in Level 5. He is so precocious that if he has used only one name, he could probably be in Level 6 or 7 already. But he say that he enjoys Yahoo! Answers so much that he is sort of competing the two names against each other. There’s nothing wrong about it, he says. Idk, but it could be a time consuming process to maintain two names and reach a high level. But my friend is already retired and has many hours to spend his time in good pursuits.

Patrick, assuming you want your blog to rake in cash, you’re going to have to go about it in the right way. So if you could just take down their details, you should be able to turn them into repeat customers (or at least stand a good chance of doing so).

Yes, we’re talking about list building, though nowadays using things such as Twitter can be just as good. End of the day, the choice is yours so long as you’re able to set up some system whereby you can continue to market to your proven buyers.
